Who and Why?
Who
Genuine business talent cannot be narrowly defined. Instead of looking for an "ideal" candidate, HBS invites applicants who exhibit a variety of skills, accomplishments and temperaments. The true common characteristics of HBS students are demonstrated leadership potential and a capacity to thrive in a rigorous academic environment.
Indeed, to create the most stimulating environment possible for all students, HBS consciously selects a diverse student body, one that not only reflects a variety of backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities, but also a wide range of personal interests and professional ambitions.
Why
The HBS mission is to educate leaders who make a difference in the world. For a century the School’s faculty has drawn on their passion for teaching, their experience in working with organizations worldwide and the insights gained from their research, to educate generations of leaders who have shaped the practice of business in every industry and in every country around the world.
All teaching at HBS is by the case method, a powerful interactive learning process that brings the complex and dynamic realities of business analysis and decision making into the classroom. HBS has broad and deep ties with executives, scholars, alumni, and other leaders and their organizations worldwide. About 35 percent of MBA students and over 60 percent of the executive education participants are from nations other than the U.S.
The best measure of the success of an educational institution is the success of its alumni, and HBS is well known to have one of the largest and most influential alumni networks of any institution in the world
